Text appearing in wrong Tab
« on: February 13, 2006, 04:11:42 PM »
This has happened a few times now (almost got booted out of a channel because of it!), where I have been in my three usual channels, and then a chat query has opened.  I clicked on the query tab in the Channel bar, typed my reply, and the text went into the wrong window.  It appeared in the right-hand most channel, rather than the query.  Can't explain it better than that.

Cheers,
Ch

Do you keep your windows maximized?

If you do, maybe it was a fluke error. But if you see it again, post it here.
Would be important to know if the error can be reproduced.

Also if you do see it again, see what it states on the status line above the Edit Box where you type.
It should say you are in a query.

I do keep them maximised.  I've tried having them normal and cascaded, but as soon as I exit the program that setting is lost, and next time it comes up maximised again.  I'll keep an eye on the status bar.

By the way, while I remember, similarly, if I turn on the "Use Emoticons" in Settings, then it doesn't get saved when I exit the program.  Are these settings kept in an "ini" file as in V.5?

Thanks,
Ch

To save settings, dont just change them and hit the X button, always hit the save button.
To save window positions, that option needs to be enabled in Options/Display Settings.
It is disabled by default.

All settings are saved in an INI file.
For the location of the INI files, read the README.TXT file.

I Looked in Options -> Display Settings

Got the cascaded windows to work ok - but still cannot get it to save the emoticons setting.  So, I closed the program, manually changed the .ini file so that it reads Emoticons=1, but when I open the program the setting is still not checked in  Options -> Display settings

Had the same problem as above with text appearing in the wrong window.  The status bar said the correct window, but when I typed something it went into a channel I was in, not the query.

Thanks for all your help.

Well, if Emoticons will not enable, then perhaps the Emoticons folder is missing, or the icons.ini file is missing from the Emoticons Folder. There should be an emoticons folder under the IceChat7 folder.

As for your query/channel message problem, I dont know how to figure that one out. If you know how to duplicate the problem, or if it is just random, would be useful. Also, do you have an errors.txt file in your IceChat7 folder, this could help as well.

I have a "icons" folder with all the .bmp files in it, and the icons.ini file, so not sure what the problem is . . .

Here is the text of errors.txt:

That is the problem, its supposed to be called Emoticons. Just rename it.
Sounds to me like you installed IceChat 7 over top of IceChat 5, which isnt a good thing. It was not meant to run in the same folder.

As for those errors, would you say that according to the times that the picBox errors happened, is that about the times that the message problem happened?

OK, thats got the Emoticons working.  I did already have v.5 installed, but when I installed v.7 it installed in a different folder, I didn't install it in the same folder as v.5.

I 'think' that error reflects when the text problem happened - but next time it does I will check the error file immediately and verify that.
