Nick Complete
« on: February 09, 2012, 02:05:33 PM »
It would be nice to have some sort of a nick complete function, it could work like this:

User starts typing: "Hello pa" then presses a shortcut key/button to change "pa" to "Paul_9"

User starts typing: "Yes si" and presses a shortcut key/button to bring up a menu near the input feild showing:

  Sid
+Simon
  Simona_Marquee

Now by either by clicking a nick or picking one using arrow keys and pressing the return key; the choosen nick would replace "si". And pressing Esc should close this menu.

I may not be perfect, but parts of me are excellent

You hit the tab key, to do nick complete. If there is more then 1 match, keep hitting the tab key.

I see, but for some reason it doesn't work properly on my office-laptop where i got Ubuntu 10.04 and Wine.

It takes about 1 minute before the nick is inserted and if i do anything while this delay is occurring it's discarded.

Since I'm usually on channels with people with 3-4 chars in their name I wasn't bothering the nick complete function.

You are running IceChat 9 in wine? And you expect it to operate normally?

IceChat 9 will run w/o the need for wine, using Mono, which is installed by default in Ubuntu.

Wine was factory installed with Ubuntu and except that IceChat 9 RC2 works just fine.

It might be because of the exe extension. Wine is set to run exe's by itself only.

Sorry to refresh this rather old topic, but I was curious if a small feature to add an nick auto-complete trailing character could perhaps be added. If a space could be added after trailing nickname character too that would be nice.

For example:

Johndoe with tab auto-complete would become Johndoe:

Sure, this could be added to RC 5.1.
There will be a text box where you can add in what you would like to add after a nick complete, including the space if needed.
Will add it to the Display section of IceChat Settings.
