Want To Post A Link In My Forum To Launch Ice Chat 7
« on: March 04, 2011, 05:50:30 AM »
Hello;

Okay I have a fan site that has a chat box, unfortunately the chat box provided is not all that good, so it was suggested to me to get this application [ Ice Chat 7 ] for the site, one of the moderators who is also a member set up a channel for us to use and I have found that this application is a lot more stable then the one we currently use.

Now on to what I am looking for.

I would like to embed a launcher on the website header that would launch the members Ice Chat applications seeing as how we cannot HTML a page for the application on the site.

Is there such a code available?

Where can I find it?

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.  :-D

There is the irc:// hyper link that can launch icechat to a certain server and then channel, but it doesnt always work for some people's systems.

It goes like this.

irc://irc.server.com/channel

So for our IceChat channel it is like this:

irc://irc.quakenet.org/icechat

You dont use the # in front of the channel name.

Good luck

So if I understand this correctly for our channel to launch then I would do this:

irc://irc.server.com/nfsworldunited

Awesome thank you for the quick reply and I will try that out.

I will post the results here.

Well, you would replace it the server name with your actual server name :)

Okay I tried this irc://irc.server.com/nfsworldunited and had the application launch without our channel on so I will try this:

irc://nfsworldunited/

And see what happens, stay tuned I will edit this if this is successful for me.

You have been a big help Snerf, has anyone ever told you that your awesome?

"nfsworldunited" is not a proper server name.

It should be something  like irc.nfsworldunited.com , or whatever the name of the server is.

I am a total noob at this so I have launched the application and will give you all the server information I have that I can see in the left column marked Favorite Servers I hope this helps you to help me.

Server Info

Server: lotus.ca.us.SwiftIRC.net
Nick: MADBIKER1960
Port: 6667
Modes: +ixr

Channels: 1
#NFSWORLDUNITED

Hope this can finally lay this to rest, I have a funny feeling it will.

A quick update here, I like to tinker with things and when they do not work I dig deeper into them until I get to the bare cores of what makes them tick

Snerf you set me off on the right path to start looking and my inquistive mind kept me going.

I now have successfully now got a link that launches the program and our channel where I can successfully enter text.

How ever there is one minor problem that still remains and I hope you can help me out with it.

When the application launches through the link we now provide it takes 2 attempt to connect.

That is the best way I could describe it.

If you would like to see what I am talking about please go to the site and use it to launch your own Ice Chat the site is http://www.nfsworldunited.com/

I will hopefully get a response to this.

If not I can live with it, until I figure out how to stop it from opening 2 channels.

Thanks.

Yes, I am aware of it trying to connect 2 times. It seems to be an issue that krept up in Vista and Windows 7, and there is no fix for it at this time.

@ Snerf

Okay then I guess for now I am done then, when there is a fix for this will it be an automatic thing?

If not I'll just keep my eyes open on the forums here.

Thanks for all your help on this matter, this is exactly one of the best sites I have been on that actually cares and responds quickly.

If any one asks me about Chat programs, you can bet on me HIGHLY reccomending yours.

Thanks.  8-)
