Ice chat and accessibility major issue!
« on: August 22, 2010, 10:18:49 PM »
Hello,
I am blind and heard ice chat is like totally cool.  So i downloaded it.  Now, I am used to mirc it has some mirc scripts and they allow a screen reader to read new output say something someone says.
I thought about writing a script for my screen reader to do this but there are a couple glaring issues.
First please for the love of my sanity classify the elements. I want to know what buttons are buttons not hear custom control when i attempt to tab through  a dialog.  Furthermore  lable said elements.  Not only that, make that entry dialog a little more screen reader friendly i didnt even see custom control when i tabbed through it.  I would like to work with the team here to make using ice chat a pleasant experience.  I think if we both work together we can accomplish my dream of having a free irc client that is accessible.  I use the window-eyes screen reader more info is at http://gwmicro.com  Jaws for windows is another screen reader more information cfan be found at http://freedomscientific.com  I use that one sometimes, but w.e uses vb script and anything else that supports comm audomation  I need some help here.

Hello

Well, we are in the process of creating a brand new version of IceChat, and it is currently in the Alpha Stages. You can give it a try, and see if it is any better then the current version, and we can go from there and see if we can help your experience be a bit better then the current version.

The link to the current Alpha version of IceChat 2009 is http://icechat.codeplex.com/releases/view/43808

The Alpha version is functional, I am just curious if it is any better then the current version you are using.
