Compatibility issues
« on: April 10, 2009, 01:36:35 AM »
Hi,
I think Icechat isn't compatible with win 7. I can install the software but when I right click, Menu is missing. Short cut commands are not working either such as /j #chat room.

You have to type whole /join #chatroom

Earlier, Icechat Would come with list of default favorite servers. That list is missing and some scripts are not working either.

It would make sense, not being compatible with Windows 7.

Icechat 7 development stopped before Windows 7 was released to the public.

Icechat 2009 is being developed right now, it may be compatible with windows 7, but just like with Windows Vista, Snerf won't be able to test it on Windows 7 until he gets a computer running windows 7.

That being said, Icechat 2009 *is* open source, feel free to download and compile it yourself, and try to get it to run.

Actually, IceChat 7.x is compatible with Windows 7.

The reason why the Popup menus do not work, and the aliases do not work, is because FirstRun.exe was not run. That seems to be the only issue with Windows 7, is that on initial install, it will not run FirstRun.exe, which creates the aliases and the popup menus.

You will also have noticed that the Server List was empty as well.

So if you run FirstRun.exe in the Program Files\IceChat folder, your set.
