What are they for?

Different user modes, that are found on rare occasions on some networks :)

Sop is pretty obvious (Super Op mode "!", .ownerx is for an IRCX based server (mode ".", and .user is another rare mode, which is mode "-".

On some ircd's it is, and on others it is !.
This is because there is no IRC standard for these, only @ and + are the standard.
