IceChat 7 Lite
« on: January 02, 2007, 10:43:45 PM »
I thoguht I would make a "Lite" version of IceChat 7.
It will remove a lot of the extra features in IceChat 7, to simplify the program.
To name a few things to be removed, but only including:
No script engine
No DCC File Support
No BNC/Proxy Support for Servers
No Text Highlighting
No Buddy List

Also on the chopping block are Emoticons, Aliases and Popup Menus, and timers.  Also removing $identifiers, at least the majority of them.

This will speed up IceChat considerably, in many ways. Quite a stripped down IRC Client, but it would work for a lot of people, as many people would never use these options in the first place. And as for emoticons, it just speeds up the display that much faster as well.

will you add a option to autorejoin if kicked? Since you wont be able to script it? Should be fairly easy. :)

You know, there is a reason why I refuse to add that option into IceChat.
I find it annoying. If I kick someone from a channel, I dont want them to rejoin right away. I usually end up banning em for it.
And thats why, I won't add it.

ah, yeah, true. Especially in a "Official" channel. I can see how that would be annoying, but, the only time I ever use it is for <beep> and giggles. :)

i'm very interested in the lite version, but without bnc and aliases its not a irc client for me

what about the color-shemes?
you could make a "normal" design without gradients
you could also remove minimizeing to tray an the away script(if it isn't a script based on the script engine^^)

All the color options have stayed, Text Highlighting has been removed.
All the aliases and popups are still there.
BNC/Proxy support has been removed.
DCC File support has been removed.
You can still minimize to the tray, and the away settings have not changed either.

I have been running the Lite version for over a week now myself, and so far, its been very good.
