icechat crash
« on: September 24, 2005, 06:24:39 AM »
Hi,
I installed icechat 5.5 and icechat 7 and both verison crash and close when I try to connect to my irc server. I get no error message or anything... it just closes.
Any ideas or thoughts? I'm a first time user of icechat and I like what I see.. would like to be able to run it.

I'm running win2k pro with sp6 and xbolite (blackbox)

Thanks
Rich

What irc server are you trying to connect to?
Did you reboot after the install?

Also, what is xbolite?

Hi,
Yes I rebooted after the install.  Xbolite is a ie replacement instead of the ie desktop it uses xbolite desktop instead.
There is no taskbar or start button to run programs. I right click on the desktop and the menu pulls up.

Hmm, I wonder if thats what is causing it to crash.
Is there a quick way to turn that off and try?
If not, i can not be sure if that is the problem or not, but it does make me suspicious.

I did manage to get it to run a couple of times... but now it's crashing all the time. I don't think xbolite is the problem.
I will "turn off" xbolite and reboot again and test it to see if it's the issue.

Check if there is an errors.txt file created in the logs folder.
By any chance, do you have Visual Studio 6 installed?

Hi,
I put my shell back to IE and tried icechat again... same result.
I am not running visual studio.

I also looked and did not see a logfile...
sorry,
Rich

Well, I don't have any other ideas what the problem could be.
Does it crash at connecting to any irc server, or particular ones?

Well, sorry to hear.
I don't have any ideas, other then perhaps trying an older version.
I had someone before try 5.10 and it worked for them.
But it is upto you.

Is IceChat crashing when you try to load it?  I think i have the same problem.

When i go to my start menu to open up Icechat, Icechat begins to load, opens to the screen size that i have it set to, then automatically minimizes itself, when i try to restore it it just closes down on me.  Ive tried reinstalling it and it doesnt seem to help.  It has worked for me for no problem before, but just recently it has started acting up on me.

im running windows XP

Some times, as stated before in many other messages, deleting the channel.ini file fixes the resize/crash issue, sometimes not.

Re-installing does not delete this file, so thats why the problem occurs.
Best thing to do for a re-install is remove it, and delete all the INI files in the IceChat folder (for IceChat 5)
