Proggie Locks Up on Connection to Channel
« on: August 09, 2005, 11:20:24 PM »
I'm having the same problem that PickleHead and MuffinMan are.
As soon as I connect to a channel (the choice of server or channel doesn't
matter) I can see the traffic on the screen, but I can't type or click or do
anything at all except <Ctrl><Alt><Del>.  The proggie is dead.

I've read about this bug on a couple Freeware/Shareware sites, so it seems
to be a generic bug.

This is a fresh install w/o any previous versions of IceChat on the disk, on
Win98 SE, 5.50 (010905).

There are a bunch of annoying shortcomings in your program design (poorly- sized windows, non-expandible windows) but this is looking to be the best
"product" on the market, so to speak, so I really hope you fix this.

I'm trying 7 alpha right now to see if it helps, and I'll D/L 5.1 too.

THANKS for all the GOOD WORK!

Hmm, another person with the same problem.
I have not to been able to talk through this problem with anyone, to see what is really causing it.
What I really need to do is talk with someone, and go through a step by step basis, so this bug can be fixed.
But, no one is willing, so the bug remains.

I do sit in the IceChat Support channel (#icechat on Quakenet) so if you could find me there, and hopefully I will be around, it would be nice if I could sit with a person having this problem, and walk through it, so I can fix it. Check errors, see where it is exactly locking up, and perhaps trying out some fixes, to solve the problem.

If IceChat7 no longer has the problem, that would be great information to know.

Thanks

i had the same problems, both versions 5 and 7 would lock up, with microsoft send error report
but i had another IRC program running, HydraIRC
as soon as i closed hydrairc icechat started working great
so these problems might be due to certain programs running in the background
just have to sus out witch ones it dont like, at least we know it dont like Hyrairc anyway

Ya, that is strange, but hey, what do you expect from Microsoft ;)
