Legacy bug: Formatting codes insert a space
« on: November 20, 2004, 12:06:58 PM »
Hi there.

:)

I'm not sure if you know of this bug or not, and it's really not anything particularly drastic, but it does get

distracting after a while.

Ever since I can remember, IceChat has had a problem with formatting characters (color

codes, bold, underline, etc.) It's a bit difficult to describe, so I've attached this image in the hopes of making things

more clear.

Let me know if it

needs clarification, I know it's a bit hard to read.

The problem just can not be helped, its a flaw in the

Richtextbox control, created by Microsoft, which is what IceChat uses for displaying text.

So, it can not be fixed in

IceChat 5.

I would just like to make a side note, to this problem. I

seem to have found a solution to fixing this, but it is not 100% tested yet. I hope to have to fixed though, for next

release.
I am guessing tho, that the "cancel" character is what CTRL-O is in mIRC? I believe its char(15).

I usually use Ctrl+K without any color specified to cancel

the formatting. Is there an IceChat keystroke to insert the chr(15) character?

No, I never added a cancel code short cut. I have added it to

the next 5.51 beta version. Also, I have managed to actually get some lead way on this issue, and it is already working

better then before. Funny how you can look at something a few months later, and see how you can do something slightly

different. :)

Anyways, so far so good tho, the spaces have managed to disappear. Now I am just seeing if I can correct

the problem with the text clipping from another post, and I will build another Beta Build.
