Title: custom hooks/links.
Post by: novex on January 25, 2005, 07:59:47 AM
heres a novel (i think) idea.

at

present icechat picks up "http://" and "www.xxx.ccc" as website links, and hands them off to the OS (as i understand

it)

now what iw as thinking was allowing users to customize thier own hook's / patterns and what it launches.

eg you can make one for .*@.*\..* that launches your mail programme.

or "ut2004://" to launch a game of

UT

you get the idea anyway im sure :)

Hmm. Now, how would this be different then if you were to

create a menu item for the Command menu, that launches uT2004 with the Shell Command? Because that seems a lot easier.

yea it is a bit different from a command menu to launch ut

alone.

as it would launch ut and automtaicaly connect to the server that was in irc.

or another example

would be something like skype://whateveritis to call a skype account.

otherwise it would just be like having a

command in teh command menu to launch your webbrowser.

Well, off hand, I just see this as something that just would

not get used.
I'll add it in my to do list, but I dont really see this as a valid addition to an IRC Client, so, dont

count on it being added.
