Title: Potential ident issue on some channels/networks
Post by: Patrik356b on January 18, 2014, 12:53:17 PM
Apparently it's quite often on some networks users get banned simply because of having the irc client name as the ident.

[21:09.50] <K24> Patrik356b, it's been a while since i was on quakenet . . .we used to ban users using 'client' like hexchat in the ident field

I haven't seen this problem myself, but it should be noted.

If you get banned for that, simply change your ident in the server editor

Wow, that is just aweful. Why would anyone want to go onto a network where people are that stupid?
Absolutely childish!

Only reason i could think of is when you have multiple users with similar ident. Shouldn't be a problem though.

Otherwise i suppose it's just morons administrating those channels/networks

Oh yes, and we all know how many people have power trips on IRC.

So, I don't see it as an issue, as it is easily changed, and to the fact, ppl will ban ppl simple for not spelling perfectly, ident certainly isnt the only reason.
