Title: IceChat 7 and Windows 8
Post by: Snerf on January 03, 2013, 05:05:14 PM
It looks like there are some issues with IceChat 7.70 and Windows 8.
I am not sure if these will able to be fixed, but one of the main issues is it can not properly get the data folder in places in the app, and it comes up with errors as a result.

There "may" be an update for this in the future, but no guarantees. I would strongly suggest moving to IceChat 9 , as it has no issues with Windows 8 at all, because it is built with a much more modern compiler.

The IceChat 7 compiler is nearly 15 yrs old, and so it is terribly outdated. It may simply not be meant to run in Windows 8.

So, the default Install / FirstRun for IceChat places the INI files in \users\username\AppData\Local\IceChat

BUT, when you run the program, it is trying to read it from \users\username\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\IceChat\Settings.

So there lies the dilemna, why the two are different.
So we will need to come up with a small solution for this, and perhaps a fix can come from this.

Stay tuned!

I believe you could fix this with a batch file.

No, it is a flaw found in the code.
Already fixed, just now need to test 7.8.

Any new updates on the 7.80 version? Just feel more comfortable with getting IceChat 7 installed on my windows 8 machine cause I can use some functions in version 7 that I cannot seem to get to work with version 9.

Since I do not have Windows 8, I have made no progress.
I had a number of people say they would test 7.8 for me, but had not heard back from any of them, so it was dropped.
