Title: Multiple Instances/ Profiles
Post by: IceCold10 on February 28, 2010, 01:14:59 AM
I'd like to list two features which I find necessary.
Both currently exist in Ice7, not exactly as described bellow, but very useful:

1. Multiple Instances/ Profiles
The multi profile of Ice7 is very handy, and for my usage, necessary. I need to have different settings of servers per different computer users, or purposes.
2. Profile and Data location:
This was partly mentioned in topic http://www.icechat.net/forums/index.php?topic=1318.0 (http://www.icechat.net/forums/index.php?topic=1318.0) but I want to expand a little here as well.

I would like to be able to define the location of the profile folder, and the data folder for that profile each in its own location.
My reasoning is that a profile folder holds only definitions (*.ini) for that profile, and so occupies small disk space, while the data folder holding all the logs, is much bigger.

In general, I simply want to be able to organize my programs/disks as independently as possible.

This, like IceChat 7, will be able to be done with a command line parameter.

Details will be shown once I get the feature added.

Thanks

Thanks :-)
But Ice7 also has profile manager.
Will Ice 2009 have it too?

No, because all the profile manager did was run icechat with the -profile command line.

There really is not any need for this.

So as of Alpha 12.2. you can now start IceChat with the -profile command line parameter, and then the data path inside quotes.

ie: IceChat.exe -profile "G:\IceChat Data Folder"
